Siona's Tale with Barbara A Liepe

At a time when ignoring scientific facts may have terrible consequences for future generations there is an unmet need to encourage scientific literacy and wonder. Siona’s Tale achieves a rare feat in literature, combining both science and fiction with a simple story line and big concepts, as Siona’s desperate quest to save what she loves the most—her tail—delivers a destiny much greater than herself. The story captures the tantalizing transformations in self-discovery and understanding, while concurrently exploring the grandest experiment of all—life.

Since Barbara A Liepe was a teenager she has been captivated by the natural world and earned her PhD at the University of California, at Berkeley focused on fish photoreceptors. She has authored a number of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She is currently a sales representative in the life sciences. She and her husband, Frank, live in Berkeley, California, and have three children.

Maddie Kathleen is a freelance illustrator specializing in comics and concept art. She graduated in 2017 from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and loves designing fantastical worlds and characters. She lives in Berkeley, California.
