Pema Chödrön's perennially best-selling classic on overcoming life's difficulties cuts to the heart of spirituality and personal growth--now in a newly designed 20th-anniversary edition with a new afterword by Pema--makes for a perfect gift and addition to one's spiritual library.
How can we live our lives when everything seems to fall apart—when we are continually overcome by fear, anxiety, and pain? The answer, Pema Chödrön suggests, might be just the opposite of what you expect. Here, in her most beloved and acclaimed work, Pema shows that moving toward painful situations and becoming intimate with them can open up our hearts in ways we never before imagined. Drawing from traditional Buddhist wisdom, she offers life-changing tools for transforming suffering and negative patterns into habitual ease and boundless joy.
About the Author
Pema Chödrön is an American Buddhist nun in the lineage of Chögyam Trungpa and resident teacher at Gampo Abbey in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, the first Tibetan Buddhist monastery in North America. She is the author of numerous best-selling books, including The Places That Scare You and Living Beautifully.
“Perhaps what makes Pema’s message resonate so strongly with people, no matter what their religion or spiritual path, is its universality. Each of us has experienced heartache; how we interact with that feeling, Pema says, can create the possibility of a more joyful life.” —O, The Oprah Magazine “As one of Pema Chödrön’s grateful students, I have been learning the most pressing and necessary lesson of all: how to keep opening wider my own heart.” —Alice Walker, Pulitzer Prize–winning author and activist
STOREFRONT CLOSED FOR REGULAR BUSINESS
Nevertheless, UPB provides ship-to-home service.
Unless and until we move our on-line fulfillment team to different premises, everything you purchase from us ships from warehouses outside of Berkeley.
Much of what we used to carry on store shelves is available, except for very expensive books, used books, and titles fallen between printings.
Certain limitations apply:
Sometimes we may have to split an order because books are stocked at different warehouses.
Thus, we may remove items from a multi-book order and ask you to resubmit them on a separate order.
Many high demand titles ship fairly quickly. Most other titles travel from back east, adding 2 to 5 days to delivery
Although we love you in Canada, Latin America, and else where, U.S. orders only.
Certain publishers give us low merchant discounts on certain titles, sometimes no discount at all. To be honest, we've had to raise prices on these, ranging from 5% to 30% above list.
You can also purchase eBooks and audio books through us. Distributed by Hummingbird, they include publications from the major trade publishers. Just access the menu link or the sidebar image above.
We greatly appreciate your support of the store with your book orders. Need a book without our current shopping limitations? We recommend Bookshop. View our recommendations on Bookshop, then search for whatever book you'd like.
